Flemington-based jeweler Jason Baskin receives first prize in
the 19th annual Jewelers of America Affiliate Design Competition
New York, NY - Jewelers of America, the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry retail marketplace, has awarded Jason Baskin, of Flemington, NJ -based The Gem Vault, first place in its 19th annual Affiliate Design Competition. This is the second time Baskin has been awarded the first-place prize. The competition featured unique entries from top jewelry designers around the nation.
"Jewelers of America is honored to recognize the exceptional talents of regional jewelers, like Jason Baskin, whose design demonstrates the remarkable jewelry available from Jewelers of America-member stores nationwide," says Jewelers of America Chairman John Green, Lux Bond & Green.
Baskin's winning entry is a custom-made and hand-engraved 14K white gold pendant with a beautiful African cuprian tourmaline (21.54 ct) as the center stone. The stone is surrounded by pavé-set, bezel-set and channel-set diamonds totaling almost 3 carats. Baskin finished the piece with custom-cut diamonds that dangle from the main pendant.
Baskin entered his pendant in Category III of the competition (for jewelry using materials worth from $3,001 and over). A panel of industry experts awarded the first place prize to his design based on its craftsmanship, marketability, practicality/wearability and overall design.Sharon Curtiss-Gal, the Gem Vault's other in-house designer, was entered in the $1,000 and under category, with titanium-covered druzy and diamond earrings in white gold.
Twenty-seven designers competed for the top prizes in four categories: $1,000 and under; $1,001-$3,000; $3,001 and over; and a Buyers' Choice Award. Only Jewelers of America members and their employees can submit designs.Designers at the Gem Vault have won first place in the New Jersey Jewelers Association affiliate design competition for twelve years and counting.
