Summer is a big season for fleas and ticks. Populations of these critters explode in hot weather, and they are looking for a home on larger animals, including your pet dogs and cats. “Dogs can get Lyme disease,” said Dr. Ross Peterson. Lyme disease is prevalent in this area, and it is spread by ticks—to all sorts of animals, including, of course, humans. Dr. Peterson is a veterinarian who runs the new Voorhees Corner Veterinary Clinic along with partner Dr. Chadd Tindall, son of Dr. Ed Tindall. Dr. Ed Tindall is well-known in the Hunterdon area as the veterinarian who operated a traveling veterinary clinic for many years in a box truck. It was based in Delaware Township. He is trying to retire, but he still helps his son and Dr. Peterson at the new Voorhees clinic. His son is continuing the mobile clinic. “Treating dogs for Lyme disease takes about 30 days,” continued Dr. Peterson. The new clinic treats all sorts of pets, including cats, birds and reptiles, he added. Cats are especially susceptible to ticks, fleas and ear mites, as well as viruses. The clinic is fully equipped for surgeries, including resetting broken bones and neutering. Tooth extractions are performed here, as well as vaccinations and radiology. To have dogs and cats neutered, call for an appointment at 908 806-2783. The new Voorhees clinic is located at 332 Rte. 202 east of the Flemington circle. Dr. Peterson moved here from Virginia where he was a member of a large veterinary practice for six years. He brings a great deal of experience in animal emergency and preventative care to the new clinic.
