Hillside Police Department Organizes Dinners for Township Residents without Power
On August 29, 30 and 31st, 2011 the members of the Hillside Police Department at the direction of Chief Quinlan, organized free dinners for the Hillside Township residents still without power due to the effects of Hurricane Irene. Nine streets in Hillside were still without power as of the morning of August 31st.
To assist the members of the community, the Hillside Police Department along with the Township of Hillside sponsored the free dinners for the residents. Volunteers from the Police Department made arrangements with M&M pizza (who provided a variety of food all 3 nights), Speedy mart, Popeye's Chicken and Herbs Luncheonette to provide food for the functions. Police volunteers also reached out to Mooney General for paper products, Gargiulo Produce for fresh fruits and vegetables and to Union beverages for beverages. Police Officers, Domestic Violence Counselors, Civilian Employees and their family members along with Township employees and their family members volunteered to make these nights a success! The members of the Township Council and the Mayor were in attendance to answer any questions and concerns the residents may have had. PBA Local 70 wants to thank all those that volunteered their time and the businesses that provided their assistance to the members of our community.
