3 Tips for Safe Night Driving

Driving at night is not only scary, it can prove to be more difficult than driving during the day. There are certain precautions that you should be taking when taking the car out in the dark. According to Popular Mechanics, these tips can help to keep you safe when driving at night.

Adjust your Headlights- Sometimes your car's headlights can be pointed down or be uneven. Be patient though, aiming them on you own can be tricky. Be sure to follow the instructions in your owner's manual. Also, clean the road grime from your headlights for optimum performance. If you have plastic lens covers, they can yellow with age over time. Try buying a polishing kit to keep your lenses clear.

Dime That Dash- Your forward driving vision could be compromised by having your dash lights on full brightness. Try turning down your dash brightness a bit. Turn off your interior lights too. Cheap lights can disperse light throughout the car and shine in the driver's eyes.

Don't Stare at Oncoming Lights- Your eyes are used to the dim lighting within the car. You can become easily distracted by bright oncoming lights, be sure to turn away from them. If the highbeams are glaring at you from behind, try aiming your rearview mirror to reflect the light back at the driver to alert them.

Nighttime driving doesn't have to be dangerous. These tips should make your journey easier and safer. Drive carefully!
