Three Steps to Get Your Car in Gear for Summer

With summer here, it is important to keep your vehicle in peak performance. Sure, cruising around town with the top down is a lot of fun, but you need to be sure that summer isn't taking its toll on your ride. Check out these tips, from How Stuff Works, to keep your car in tip top shape for these coming summer months.

De-winterize Your Car- Snow tires are heavy and lower your fuel economy, get rid of them! You'll want to change your oil, too. During the winter months, oil accumulates condensation when it sits in your engine all winter. Clean up the underside of your car. Salt from icy roads can get caked on your car and eat away at the metal.

Change Your Air Filter- As winter progresses, salt from the roads can clog your air filter. Try changing it every 12,000 miles or so, it should improve your gas mileage by up to ten percent. That being said, a slightly dirty air filter works better than a totally clean one.

Clean your Battery- Summer is just as good at destroying car batteries as winter is. Summer heat can speed up the chemical reaction inside a battery, causing the battery to be overcharged. This will shorten the lifespan of your battery drastically. Be sure to detach the battery cables and clean the terminals.

These three tips will help keep your car running smoothly this summer. All you have to do is bring the fun!
