The Weekly Walk Around

As drivers, it's important that we regularly check our vehicles for problems that could worsen if gone unchecked. Each week, you should take the Weekly Walk Around to practice preventative maintenance. Tips.drivingtestsuccess.com suggests you use the P.O.W.E.R. method when examining your car.

"P" Petrol- It's important to make sure you're using the right fuel for your car. Some vehicles require diesel and others gasoline. Be sure to check your owner's manual to see if you need Premium instead of low octane gasoline.

"O" Oil- It's a good idea to check your oil while your car is cold. The oil sinks to the bottom and your dipstick can get a more accurate reading. Dip it once, wipe it clean, then dip it again. This will show you your oil levels. The oil level should read between the High and Low indicators on the dipstick. If it's too low, you'll need to top off the reservoir.

"W" Wiper fluid- Having a clean windshield is important to your driving visibility. Make sure you fill this fluid reservoir when you notice it's too low. Also, take this opportunity to check your coolant levels.

"E" Electrics- This pertains to your lights. It is extremely dangerous to have lights that aren't operational. If your brake lights don't work, drivers behind you can't see you slowing down, which could cause an accident. Keep some spare bulbs in your car in case one blows out.

"R" Rubber- Your tires are important to maintain. Be sure to check for damage regularly. Unlike a puncture, sidewall damage cannot be repaired. This is also a good opportunity to check your tire pressure. As tips.drivingtestsuccess.com explains, "under inflated tyres can effect fuel economy, and can wear unevenly, leading to costly replacements." Also, check your spare to make sure it's in good condition.

Once a week, you should take some time to inspect your vehicle for any damage. Preventative maintenance is key! Be sure to come see us with any of your car damage and maintenance questions.
