With the baby boomer population aging and Americans 60-years-old expected to reach nearly 76 million by 2020, raising public awareness about vascular disease and screening becomes critical.
The Society for Vascular Surgery believes vascular disease must
become a national health care priority and is committed to
improving public
awareness and
understanding of vascular
disease.

In an effort to facilitate this SVS commitment to improving public awareness and understanding of vascular disease - Baseline Medical promotes proactive screenings.
Diagnostic vascular ultrasound allows people to learn and understand vascular disease before a life-changing symptom occurs. However the symptom is required to have a written order by the physician to be examined and for insurance to reimburse.
Baseline Medical avoids this unfortunate pre-requisite by appealing to physicians and potential heart attack and stroke victims before disaster strikes - which is far better. In just 10 short minutes the data is gathered and placed into a format of findings to be presented to a physician for review on their next office visit.
Physicians routinely recommend screenings that do not prevent disease. For example - Cancer screenings reveal the presence of cancer (or not) - they do not prevent the disease.
However - screenings for Stroke - which is the # 1 reason Americans enter nursing homes and the #1 reason why employers lose the valued skills of dedicated workers - help prevent the Stroke in over 80% of the cases. Aneurysms in the brain are not routinely visualized.
When disease in the carotid arteries is identified on the screenings proactive steps can be taken to eliminate unnecessary risk of Stroke because blood flow can remain intact. When people are not encouraged to be screened - or they are not being treated to eliminate risk of Stroke - we cannot be surprised that Stroke remains one of the most feared and costly health issues in our society.
Screenings are safe. Waiting for a symptom is not safe - and this is the persistent problem.
Any questions about the screening results should always prompt another ultrasound study to confirm results. This study is also painless and harmless like the screening itself. Really.
No risks to you at all.
