October is Fall Car Care Month

Did you know October is Fall Car Care Month? It's a good time to take a few simple steps that can save you the headaches and cost of an emergency breakdown later, says the Car Care Council.

Here's a maintenance checklist to us to make sure your car your car is ready for winter.

1. Check the battery and charging system before cold weather: - Keep the battery connections clean, tight and corrosion-free. Replace batteries that are more than three years old.

2. Check the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

3. Replace worn wiper blades.

4. Check the fluid level in the windshield washer reservoir.

5. Check your air filters.

6. Check the tires weekly, including the tire pressure, tread depth, bulges and bald spots. If snow and ice are a problem in your area, consider winter tires designed to grip slick roads.

7. Have the brake system checked, including brake linings, rotors and drums.
