Tips for Choosing Custom Wheels

True auto aficionados often replace standard (and many times boring!) factory wheels with bigger, flashier rims and tires. Adding custom wheels not only changes the look of your vehicle; it can also alter its performance. Before you order those wheels, there are a few things you should know:

· Larger rims may cause the vehicle to handle and steer differently.

· Choose light alloy wheels if you need high performance, plan on racing a vehicle, or if you drive in stop and go traffic frequently.

· Select rims smaller than your current set if you need to reduce overall weight of your vehicle.

· Install wider rims to improve your vehicle's handling.

· Use steel wheels with a sturdy interior structure for heavy work or off-road driving.

· Rims that are one or two inches larger than the stock factory wheels help improve performance.

· Choose custom wheels with a maximum-load rating compatible with your vehicle.

· Find wheels that match the bolt pattern of your and make sure to buy rims that have the same number of lug nut holes as your hubs.

Last but not least, changing the tire and wheel size drastically from the factory specifications may void the manufacturer's warranty on a new vehicle. Size affects the way the brakes work, and the size of your tires impacts wear and tear on the drive train and engine.
