Sailors Starting Young in Fairfield

Pequot Yacht Club hosted the Opti Rumble Sailing Regatta last Saturday where about 100 young sailors from 8 yacht clubs participated. This regatta got many kids on Long Island Sound and practicing their sailing with minimal parental intervention. This one day event gets children experience in all aspects of sailing as they prep the boats, sail them, and then put them away afterwards. The ages ranged from 10 to 14 years old, which meant it was the first regatta for many of the kids. The fun and competitive regatta is a way to give the young sailors useful experience on the water.
