Erected by the Allentown Bridge Co., a subsidiary of the Lehigh Valley Transit Co., the Eighth Street Bridge opened on Monday, November 17, 1913. It's purpose was to facilitate movements of their trolleys on the Liberty Bell Limited to Upper Darby and the Emmaus-Macungie route. In 1974, the Eight Street Bridge was officially renamed the Albertus L. Meyers Bridge in his honor. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
