How To Wear And Use A Fall Arrester System?

Fall arrester systems can help prevent falling down from a great height from suspended scaffolds and other raised platforms in construction / renovation site. But it is essential to wear a personal fall arrest system in a proper way, so as to prevent the risks of fatal injuries on job sites. Here is how to do it.

Proper fitting

While wearing a personal fall arresting system, workers have to ensure that the harness properly fits the torso. After getting it in a proper size, they have to ensure that the D ring falls in the middle of the back's upper section.

Buckling of straps

The waist and leg straps have to properly connected and buckled with the safety lock that comes along, so that the fall arrest system is securely tightened, but is able to let them move their limbs easily.

Connecting to a secure point

After the harness is attached to the body, it needs to be connected with the help of retracting lifelines and lanyards to a fixed, safe anchor point. Such kinds of straps / ropes limit how far a personnel can drop in case he slips or loses balance while working much high above the ground. The harness cannot prevent falls if the harness is connected properly to the ropes and is anchored well.

It can be a good idea to have an expert worker, supervisor or friend inspect the personal fall arrest system and ensure it has been properly put on. An OSHA trained expert can be a good guide in such cases.
