Suspended Scaffolding Systems – What are the Different Types?

A temporary framework or platform composed of wood, Scaffolding or suspended scaffold equipment can be used by workers to sit or stand on while performing activities high above the surface of the ground. Find out about the different types of suspended scaffolding systems that exist today.

Suspended Scaffolding

This is generally used by washers or window painters, and may be suspended with the help of pulleys, weights and strong ropes. It operates on the principles of an elevated area or balanced platform which can be accurately lowered and hoisted, based on the space it is used in.

Cantilever Scaffolding

When immediately used, it can be erected easily and can hold a single worker securely - with all the necessary supplies. It can be learned from a building or structure at an angle, and not utilized like any other type of suspended access equipment that is placed at the side of a structure.

Birdcage Scaffolding

This one comprises of rows of poles that are spaced at equal intervals, and are hoisted in parallel lines - giving them a birdcage-like appearance. After this, thick sized planks of wood are lined over the poles of the equipment and secured in place with clamps. It is made specifically to be used at just one level.

Single Pole Scaffolding

It has just one row of poles, and depends on the structure against which the scaffolding is leaned for support. Remember that single pole rope suspended platforms are not recommended at all for tasks that include external structures which can be remove easily or are changed a lot.
