What Are the Early Signs Of Pregnancy?

If you've been trying to get pregnant, you've probably already scoured the internet for pregnancy information on how to conceive. Now, you may be feeling a little "off," which could potentially be cause for excitement! But how do you know if you're pregnant? Here are the major signs to look for.

1. You missed a period.

If you missed a period, something's up! Although pregnancy isn't the only reason for a missed period, it's often one of the most common. Some women may experience some very light spotting instead of missing a period entirely, but if your cycle is off and you've been trying to conceive, it's worth visiting your OB. He or she can examine your pelvis and administer a pregnancy test to confirm your suspicions or identify any other issues that might be at play.

2. Your breasts are sore.

If you're pregnant, your breasts will be very sore during the first trimester. This symptom starts early on in the process as your body's production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone rise.

3. You frequently feel nauseous.

In the very early weeks of pregnancy, many women experience morning sickness, which may or may not be accompanied by vomiting. Your morning sickness may actually feel like it lasts all day or it may follow a very specific pattern, such as getting worse in the evenings and receding in the mornings. Certain strong smells can also trigger nausea, such as coffee or a particular spice or food.

4. Your basal body temperature is elevated.

Your basal body temperature (BBT) is your temperature upon first waking in the morning. If you consistently track your basal body temperature (BBT) for fertility purposes, you may be more likely to notice a change. If your temperature stays elevated and does not fall back down below the coverline on your fertility chart.

5. You are breaking out.

Acne and other major skin changes are common during pregnancy. However, you'll want to be careful about treatment, as some acne treatments can be unhealthy for the baby. Always talk to your doctor first.

6. You have what feels like never-ending period cramps.

If you feel crampy and fatigued (much like you feel during your period), this is another good sign that you might be pregnant. If you are, your uterus may already be starting to stretch and change in preparation for the baby, which can cause some discomfort.
