Upcoming Loot Shooter Games

Loot shooters are an ever-popular genre of games that know just how to scratch that middle-ground itch of providing exciting gameplay and a reward system at the same time. Fixing FPS with RPG elements of grinding and getting better gear has always been a winning formula, and many developers are hoping to capitalize on the goodwill that popular games like Destiny and Borderlands have built up. If you're a big fan of the loot shooter genre, you're probably always ready to try out the newest game to see if it's the next big thing. In this article, we'll highlight some of the most exciting loot shooter games coming out this year.

Outriders

Outriders came out in the spring, so it's technically not an upcoming game, but with the constant influx of updates and changes to loot shooters, this one can be considered basically brand new. Outriders is a multiplatform loot shooter made by People Can Fly. You may already be familiar with some of their previous work, including the game Bulletstorm. The setting takes place on another world after Earth has exhausted all of its resources. Your player character will be participating in a civil war on this planet, where you'll have access to plenty of weapons and customization options to personalize your gameplay experience.

Witchfire

Back in 2014, developers The Astronauts made an indie game called The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, which was met with plenty of critical acclaim. Now they're going in a different direction with Witchfire, a loot shooter set in the 1600s. If you're wanting something a little different out of your loot shooters, this game looks to fit the bill. You'll have FPS gameplay combined with a loot system as you hunt witches and other supernatural beings in this time period. This game is scheduled to come out sometime in 2021 and will be available on PC. This is set to be a single-player experience at the moment, so if you prefer multiplayer loot shooters, you might be more excited about the next game on our list.

Plan 8

Plan 8 is a game being developed by Pearl Abyss, the same studio responsible for Black Desert Online. Players will have an in-game exo-suit that gives them special combat abilities. The loot system will also provide you with plenty of weapons and gear - and presumably upgrades for the aforementioned exo-suits. There isn't a ton of information about this game available right now, but it's scheduled to be released sometime in 2021 and will be available on multiple platforms.
