Queer Friendly Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Many of the ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in a queer-friendly way are the same ways as non-queer people might celebrate Valentine's Day, except that they involve or take place at queer owned and operated ventures and enterprises rather than non-queer ones.

Book a Stay at a Queer B&B

Nothing says romance like a romantic getaway. Whether it's an AirBnB or an actual bed and breakfast, when the owner-operators and other guests are queer like you, or at least queer-friendly, then you get to spend time with your special someone luxuriating in each other in a cozy and perhaps exotic environment without having to behave on the down-low or watch your backs.

Can't afford all that, or not quite ready for it yet with someone you just met on one of the lesbian singles dating sites? How about booking a dinner reservation at a queer-owned restaurant or even a brunch date at a queer-owned cafe instead?

Exchange Queer Valentine Cards

Straight people no longer have the monopoly on the Valentine cards market. Now even Hallmark and the other major greeting card makers churn out new queer Valentine cards each year with their traditional "conforming sexual identity" catalog.

Or, if you like the idea of exchanging Valentine cards but don't want to buy them, you can make them yourself instead. Just go to your nearest art supply store, or dollar store, and let your creativity run as rampant as your romantic queer heart.

Watch a Queer Romance Movie

The more Hollywood realizes how many of us make up their box office tallies each year, the more of their budgets the studios pour into producing films that speak to our experiences and desires. That gives you a Brokeback Mountain of movies of all rainbow stripes to pick from, and no longer just ones with depressing endings, as per queer films past (unless you like that sort of thing.)

Recap

These are just some ideas to get you started. Whatever you decide to do for Valentine's Day this year, have a happy one, and give yourself some love while you're at it.
