Sexuality can be complicated, and while you may feel like you fit into one specific box on a survey, your sexuality in practical terms may not be as cut and dry. For many people, dividing sexuality into straight and gay is an easy way to define who a person is. Even with this being the case, the nice-and-neat, cut-and-dried definitions of sexuality being only two types are no longer the standard.
For some people, ticking one single box isn't so easy. While you may consider yourself straight and identify as such, maybe you've found yourself wondering about same-sex relationships or sexuality. Perhaps you've found yourself taking a peek at a bicurious dating site or you've found yourself checking out someone of the same sex despite identifying as straight. You, my friend, may be heteroflexible.
Still Straight, But Not All the Way Straight
Someone who is heteroflexible is usually defined as someone who identifies as straight and is attracted to people of the opposite sex, but may have a minor admitted interest in the same sex. Unlike someone who is bicurious, which is defined as someone who has a questioning interest in the opposite sex, someone who is heteroflexible generally favors one gender but could see themselves open to the possibility of being with another gender.
In a way, this goes back to the bicurious dating site example used above. Bicurious and heteroflexible do have a lot of similarities; however, someone who is heteroflexible is usually going to be someone with an admitted interest in the same sex whereas someone who is bicurious is attracted to both genders. Heteroflexible people are merely curious about exploring their feelings further to see where they end up.
How you identify is up to you, and you may find that your feelings change with time or practical experience. The flexible part in heteroflexible demonstrates that the label isn't something that is static, but instead, it is changing and dynamic depending on the person and the situation.
