The Difficulties of Dating as a Bisexual Woman

Dating is hard enough as it is. But when you're a bisexual woman, you have unique challenges that heterosexuals just don't experience.

The world has made strides in the last decade, and meeting new people is as easy as logging onto the best dating app for LGBTQ+ folks and making a connection. But even still, there are inherent difficulties.

The Misconception of Temporary Bisexuality

One of the biggest issues when dating a bisexual woman is that many people assume that your sexuality is a phase. At one point, the "just a phase" argument applied to all queer people. But it seems like the target is more towards bisexual people these days.

Contrary to what some say, it's not a temporary feeling. It doesn't go away or end when you enter a relationship. You can spend the rest of your life with a man or a woman, but that doesn't mean you're no longer bisexual. Clarifying that fact is a struggle all on its own.

Matters of Infidelity

Another significant problem is reassuring partners that you won't be unfaithful. There are countless stereotypes about bisexual women out there.

Some believe that bisexuals are greedy and only looking to have quick flings. Others say they can't commit to serious relationships or are always down for multi-partner experiences. There's nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't apply to every bisexual woman.

Unfortunately, bi women are often fetishized and put into a box. All women are unique, and bisexuality doesn't mean that you'll become unfaithful or are open to exploring in the bedroom.

Dealing with Bi Erasure

Bisexual erasure is an ongoing problem in and outside of the community. Even on the best dating app for LGBTQ+ people, ignorance runs rampant.

Bi women exist, and your sexuality is more than a fleeting feeling. While society is getting better, education is important. Bisexual women often feel like they can't express who they are due to flippant attitudes on both sides of the spectrum.

The key to successfully dating as a bi woman is being honest and talking about your struggles. Partners should be supportive every step to maintain a healthy relationship that's strong enough to thrive.
