Spring Run School Prepares for Future Service to Special Needs Students
Following a large graduating class this past June, Spring Run School at the Center for Educational Advancement (CEA) announces that they are welcoming new additions to the school for special needs students in Flemington, NJ.
Upcoming program offerings and changes at Spring Run are expected to include the creation of a Transition Apartment where students can learn appropriate personal and group living behaviors, a change to the gym which will feature equipment similar to that which a Gym or Fitness & Health Club might offer and an enhanced menu at the cafeteria with a greater variety of healthy breakfast, lunch and snack options. A particularly exciting addition to staff professional development will be training and classroom/Transition observation and support by consultants from The Eden Institute.
Incoming Principal, Paul Semegran, pictured above, brings many years of experience as a teacher and Principal, most recently for eleven years at a Charter School with a varied special needs and traditional student population. His experiences there make him well suited to the environment at Spring Run. Principal Semegran said, "I am very excited about the opportunity to join Spring Run School and assist with the Mission to provide an educational and therapeutic environment for our students. My goal here is to accomplish this Mission and help our students become well prepared for the challenges they will face as adults in their personal lives as well as with their career choices."
Joining Mr. Semegran as a new staff member at Spring Run is Special Education Teacher Denise Davis, also pictured above. Denise has worked with students and families in private and public school settings. Her wide experience and training at the Eden Institute make her uniquely suited to help create an academic setting that takes the best aspects of a highly structured program and merges them with the needs of a diverse student population that thrives on individualized learning and free expression while also developing appropriate skills and traits that will help guide them into adulthood. "Since joining the staff of Spring Run for the Summer Program this past July, I can truly say that this is one of my most interesting and rewarding teaching assignments.", said Ms. Davis.
"With the addition of such strong professionals, the enhanced methods of reinforcing positive change and other initiatives to the well established team and individualized education structure at Spring Run we are poised to become a major force for positive change in Special Education in Hunterdon and surrounding counties", said CEA President and CEO, Michael Skoczek.
Spring Run School prides itself in providing a NJ Approved Core Academic program for special needs students from multiple school districts in a caring and nurturing environment. The critically acclaimed Art Elective, taught by Frenchtown, NJ artist Barry Sharplin, allows students to explore varied art forms to allow a greater range of expression through the use of paint, clay, fabric and other media, while the Transition to adulthood program is unique in NJ by allowing participants to experience various employment experiences on campus at the Center for Educational Advancement-particularly useful for "real-time" feedback on work habit formation prior to On-the-Job experiences at a local community business for students approaching Graduation.

Center for Educational Advancement and Spring Run School Prepare for Future Community Service
The Center for Educational Advancement (CEA) Board of Trustees unanimously voted John King in as its new Chairperson at the June 28, 2012 Board meeting. Outgoing Chairperson Paul Staudt supported the Board's vote, saying "John, the CEA Board and our dedicated employees have the ability to lead CEA and Spring Run School in a new direction, one that maintains our Mission while increasing our relevance to individuals with special needs in New Jersey during these changing times. With this new team taking shape I'm truly excited about our future in this region."
The CEA mission, "To Educate, Empower, and Employ individuals with special needs," has helped more than 4,200 individuals and their families within Hunterdon and surrounding Counties since 1970. The recent economic downturn had a negative effect but with new ideas, directions and leadership CEA and Spring Run School are poised to further expand services.
"Paul was an excellent Chairperson and I'm proud to have his support as we continue to upgrade services to New Jersey residents with disabilities. He was there for us during a very difficult time at CEA and his calm and effective leadership was critical in finding us a path on which to move forward," said King. "I am truly flattered that he felt so strongly about my taking the reins of this most important NJ resource. We are all delighted that Paul will remain an active member of the CEA Board and be there to celebrate our growth."
"There is a strong commitment by the Board, and all of us at CEA and Spring Run School.", says Michael Skoczek, President and CEO. "I am confident that we have transferred both Chairman Staudt's and the Board's sentiment to a very active leadership. I am very optimistic and excited by our future growth and commitment to service to our communities. We will be making important announcements about the future of the CEA, very soon."
